If you’re dealing with back pain, neck pain, sciatica, headaches, shoulder pain or another painful musculoskeletal problem, you may be wondering what is causing it — and, more importantly, what you can do about it.
Have you had treatment before, but been given different explanations for what’s wrong?
That can be frustrating and confusing. You may simply want someone to take the time to listen, assess what’s happening and explain it clearly.
That’s where we can help.
At Isis Chiropractic Centre in Milton Keynes, our chiropractors will take the time to assess your problem, explain what we find and help you understand your treatment options.
Isis Chiropractic Centres was established in 1986, and we’ve been providing chiropractic care in our Milton Keynes clinic since 1994. Over the years, we have helped many thousands of people with problems affecting their backs, necks, joints and muscles.
Whether your pain started suddenly, has gradually developed or is something you’ve been putting up with for months or even years, we’d be happy to assess your problem and see whether we can help.

Plan Your Visit
Everything you need to know before your appointment.
You may have arrived here because something is stopping you from doing the things you normally take for granted.
Perhaps your back hurts when you get out of bed. Your neck may have become stiff and painful after sitting at a computer. Maybe you’re getting pain running down your leg and wondering if it could be sciatica. Or perhaps a shoulder, hip or other joint is stopping you from exercising, sleeping comfortably or enjoying everyday activities.
Whatever has brought you here, the first step is to understand what may be contributing to your symptoms.
We regularly assess people with problems including:
Your symptoms are unique to you, so we don’t assume that everyone with the same type of pain needs the same treatment.

Has Back Pain Started Affecting Your Everyday Routine?
If you’re looking for back pain treatment in Milton Keynes, the first step is understanding what may be contributing to your symptoms. Back pain can make surprisingly ordinary things difficult — from getting out of bed and sitting at work to driving, bending, lifting or exercising.
For some people, back pain starts suddenly. For others, it develops gradually or becomes a problem that keeps returning. You may also experience stiffness, restricted movement or pain that travels into the buttock or leg.
Rather than assuming all back pain is the same, we’ll look at your symptoms, movement and relevant medical history to understand what may be contributing to your problem.
We’ll then explain what we’ve found and discuss what treatment options may be appropriate for you.
How We Approach Back Pain Treatment
Back pain treatment at Isis isn’t based on one technique. Following your assessment, care may include appropriate manual therapy, soft-tissue treatment, exercise and rehabilitation, advice and strategies to help you manage your condition.
Where appropriate, other treatment options available at our Milton Keynes clinic include IDD Therapy, Shockwave Therapy, Low Level Laser Therapy and TECAR therapy. If further investigation or referral is indicated, we’ll discuss this with you.
The aim is not simply to treat where it hurts, but to understand your individual problem and help you move and function better.
If you are experiencing pain travelling from your lower back or buttock into your leg, sometimes with tingling, numbness or weakness, we can assess whether your symptoms are consistent with sciatica and what may be causing them.
Not all pain in the buttock or leg is sciatica. Sciatica usually involves irritation or compression of one of the nerve roots that contribute to the sciatic nerve. Disc problems are one possible cause, although other conditions can produce similar symptoms.
Because the appropriate treatment depends on the cause of your symptoms, we’ll assess your back and nervous system where appropriate before discussing the treatment, rehabilitation or further investigation that may be suitable for you.
If you have back pain or sciatica and have been told you have a bulging, herniated or “slipped” disc, we’ll assess whether the disc finding is likely to be contributing to your symptoms rather than assuming that a scan result is necessarily the cause of your pain.
Disc-related problems can cause lower back pain and, where a spinal nerve root is irritated or compressed, symptoms such as pain, tingling, numbness or weakness travelling into the leg.
Treatment depends on your individual assessment and may include appropriate manual therapy, advice, exercise and progressive rehabilitation. For some patients with persistent disc-related symptoms, IDD Therapy may also be considered as part of the overall treatment programme.
Our Milton Keynes clinic has on-site X-ray and rehabilitation facilities. Where MRI or specialist assessment is indicated, we’ll discuss the appropriate next step with you.
Neck Pain, Stiffness or Difficulty Moving Your Neck?
If you’re looking for neck pain treatment in Milton Keynes, we’ll start by assessing your symptoms and trying to understand what may be contributing to the problem.
Neck pain can present in different ways. You may experience stiffness or restricted movement, pain around the neck, shoulder blades or upper back, headaches associated with the neck, or symptoms that spread towards the shoulder or arm.
If you have tingling, numbness or weakness in an arm or hand, we’ll also consider whether a nerve may be involved and carry out an appropriate neurological assessment where indicated.
How We Approach Neck Pain Treatment
Your treatment will depend on what we find during your assessment. Care may include appropriate manual therapy or mobilisation, soft-tissue treatment, exercise and rehabilitation, advice and strategies to help you manage your symptoms and improve movement and function.
Neck manipulation is not automatically part of treatment. The treatment we recommend will depend on your individual symptoms, examination findings, preferences and clinical needs.
If further investigation is appropriate, our Milton Keynes clinic has on-site X-ray facilities, and we can arrange or refer for other investigations where indicated.
You don’t need to work out what’s wrong before you see a chiropractor. That’s what your initial assessment is for.
1. Tell Us What’s Been Happening
We’ll start by talking about your symptoms: when they started, what makes them better or worse and how they’re affecting your work, sleep, exercise and everyday activities.
We’ll also ask about your medical history, previous injuries and any treatment you’ve already had.
2. We’ll Examine the Problem
We’ll carry out a physical examination appropriate to your symptoms.
This may include assessing your movement, joints, muscles and neurological function, depending on the nature of your problem.
3. We’ll Explain Our Findings
We’ll explain what we’ve found in straightforward language and give you the opportunity to ask questions.
We want you to understand what we think may be contributing to your symptoms rather than simply telling you what treatment to have.
4. We’ll Talk About What Happens Next
If we believe chiropractic care is appropriate, we’ll discuss your treatment options and explain what we’re recommending and why.
If we think you need further investigation, or that another healthcare professional would be more appropriate, we’ll explain that too.
There isn’t one treatment that’s right for everyone.
At our Milton Keynes clinic, treatment is based on you, your symptoms, our assessment and what you’re hoping to get back to doing.
Depending on your needs, your care may combine hands-on treatment, exercise and rehabilitation, advice and other treatment options available at the clinic.
Chiropractic Treatment
Our chiropractors may use appropriate joint manipulation or mobilisation as part of your treatment, depending on your assessment and individual needs.
Exercises may be recommended to help improve movement, strength, stability and function as part of your recovery.
Our Milton Keynes clinic has dedicated rehabilitation facilities, allowing exercise and rehabilitation to be incorporated into your care where appropriate.
IDD Therapy is a non-invasive treatment that may be considered for selected spinal problems, including certain presentations of persistent back pain, neck pain, disc-related problems and sciatica.
Our Milton Keynes clinic has access to on-site digital X-ray imaging.
Most people don’t need an X-ray, so imaging will only be recommended where we believe it may provide clinically useful information.
Where appropriate, we can also arrange private referrals for MRI or ultrasound scanning.

We don’t assume that every patient needs the same treatment. Depending on your assessment, care may include appropriate manual therapy, soft-tissue treatment, exercise and rehabilitation, advice and other treatment options available at the clinic.
If we believe further investigation or another healthcare professional would be more appropriate, we’ll explain that too.

We Look Beyond the Painful Area
Where you feel pain isn’t always the only area that needs assessing.
If you come to us with shoulder pain, for example, we may also look at your neck, upper back, movement and surrounding muscles. If you’re experiencing hip or leg pain, we may need to consider your lower back and pelvis as well.
We’ll base our recommendations on what we find during your assessment.
Treatment Tailored to You
Your treatment isn’t based simply on the name given to your condition. We’ll consider your symptoms, examination findings, medical history, lifestyle and what you’re hoping to achieve.
We’ll explain what we’ve found, the options available to you and what we’re recommending and why.
Recognised for Patient Care and Clinical Management
Isis Chiropractic Centres has held these quality marks continuously since their introduction in 2006, reflecting our long-standing commitment to patient-centred care and high standards of clinical management.
Our clinic welcomes patients from across Milton Keynes, including Kiln Farm, Bletchley, Central Milton Keynes, Wolverton, Stony Stratford, Newport Pagnell, Shenley, Westcroft and Broughton, as well as surrounding communities.
You don’t need to know exactly what’s causing your symptoms before making an appointment. Whether you’re experiencing back pain, neck pain, sciatica or another musculoskeletal problem, we’ll start by listening, assessing what’s happening and explaining what your options are.
Don’t Let Pain Decide What You Can and Can’t Do
Perhaps you’ve stopped exercising, changed the way you sit or sleep, avoided particular movements or simply accepted that certain activities are going to be uncomfortable.
Sometimes those changes are sensible in the short term. But if a problem isn’t improving, keeps returning or is starting to interfere with your everyday life, it may be time to have it assessed.
Understanding what may be contributing to your symptoms is a useful first step.
If you’d like to find out whether our Milton Keynes team can help, contact us.
If you’ve had previous treatment or imaging such as X-rays or an MRI, please bring any relevant reports with you.
We’ll also ask about your medical history, so any relevant information about previous conditions, injuries or treatment can be helpful.
Do I need to see my GP before seeing a chiropractor?
You can generally contact us directly without a GP referral.
If your symptoms suggest that you should see your GP or another healthcare professional first, we’ll advise you.
How do I know if a chiropractor can help me?
You don’t need to diagnose yourself before making an appointment.
We’ll assess your symptoms and determine whether chiropractic care is appropriate. If another type of care would be more suitable, we’ll explain that to you.
How many chiropractic appointments will I need?
There isn’t a standard number of appointments.
Some problems may settle relatively quickly, while longer-standing or more complicated problems may require a longer period of care and rehabilitation.
We’ll review your progress and discuss your ongoing treatment with you.
Will chiropractic treatment hurt?
Most chiropractic treatment isn’t painful, although some techniques can occasionally cause temporary discomfort or mild soreness afterwards.
We’ll explain the treatment we’re recommending and adapt it to your individual circumstances.
Can you help with severe back pain?
We can assess severe back pain and determine whether chiropractic care is appropriate. Some types of severe back pain require urgent medical assessment, so if we identify anything that concerns us, we’ll advise you on the appropriate next step.
We can assess neck pain and headaches where musculoskeletal factors may be involved.
We’ll also consider whether your symptoms suggest that another type of medical assessment is necessary.
Do you treat sports injuries?
Yes. We can assess many sports and activity-related musculoskeletal problems and, where appropriate, incorporate rehabilitation and exercise into your treatment.
Do you offer X-rays?
Yes. We have digital X-ray facilities at our Milton Keynes clinic.
We don’t routinely X-ray every patient; we’ll only recommend imaging where we believe it may provide clinically useful information.
Where appropriate, we can also arrange private referrals for MRI or ultrasound scanning.
Can I use private medical insurance?
We work with a number of private medical insurers, including Bupa and AXA Health.
If you’re planning to use private medical insurance, please check your individual policy and any referral or authorisation requirements before booking.
