Where Are You Experiencing Pain?
Pain doesn’t always stay in one place, and the area that hurts isn’t necessarily the whole story.
You might have stiffness in your lower back, discomfort around your neck and shoulders, pain travelling into your leg or a joint that simply doesn’t move as comfortably as it used to.
We regularly assess people experiencing:
Your symptoms are individual to you. That’s why we’ll assess what’s happening rather than assuming that everyone with the same type of pain needs the same treatment.
Back Pain
Has Back Pain Started Affecting Your Everyday Routine?
Back pain can make surprisingly ordinary things difficult.
You may notice it when you first get out of bed, after sitting for a long time, when bending or lifting, driving, working or trying to exercise.
For some people, back pain appears suddenly. For others, it develops gradually or becomes a problem that keeps returning.
Rather than assuming all back pain is the same, we’ll look at your symptoms, movement and relevant medical history to understand what may be contributing to your problem.
We’ll then explain what we’ve found and discuss what options may be appropriate for you.

What to Expect at Your First Appointment
You don’t need to work out what’s wrong before you contact us. That’s what the assessment is for.
1. Tell Us What’s Been Happening
We’ll start by talking about your symptoms: when they started, what makes them better or worse and how they’re affecting your work, sleep, exercise and everyday activities.
We’ll also ask about your medical history, previous injuries and any treatment you’ve already had.
2. We’ll Examine the Problem
We’ll carry out a physical examination appropriate to your symptoms.
This may include assessing your movement, joints, muscles and neurological function, depending on the nature of your problem.
3. We’ll Explain Our Findings
We’ll explain what we’ve found in straightforward language and give you the opportunity to ask questions.
We want you to understand what we think may be contributing to your symptoms rather than simply telling you what treatment to have.
4. We’ll Talk About What Happens Next
If we believe chiropractic care is appropriate, we’ll discuss your treatment options and explain what we’re recommending and why.
If we think you need further investigation, or that another healthcare professional would be more appropriate, we’ll explain that too.

X-Ray Imaging
Our Northampton clinic has access to on-site X-ray imaging.
Most people don’t need an X-ray, so imaging will only be recommended where we believe it may provide clinically useful information.
Where appropriate, we can also arrange private referrals for MRI or ultrasound scanning.
Getting You Moving Again
For many musculoskeletal problems, hands-on treatment is only part of the picture.
You may want to get back to running or playing sport. Perhaps you’d simply like to walk further, work without discomfort, get back into the garden or be able to enjoy everyday activities more comfortably.
Whatever matters to you, we’ll take that into account.
Depending on your problem, exercise and rehabilitation may be used alongside treatment to help improve your movement, strength and confidence.
Our Northampton clinic has its own rehabilitation facilities, allowing us to incorporate appropriate exercises into your care when needed.
The aim isn’t simply to look at where it hurts. It’s to help you work towards getting back to the activities that are important to you.
Why Choose Our Northampton Chiropractic Clinic?
Caring for Northampton Since 1989
Our Northampton chiropractic clinic opened in 1989 and has been part of the local community for more than three decades.
Over the years, we’ve assessed and treated a wide range of back, neck, joint and musculoskeletal problems.
That experience doesn’t mean we assume we know what’s wrong before we’ve met you. It means we understand the importance of taking the time to assess each person individually.
We Look Beyond the Painful Area
Where you feel pain isn’t always the only area that needs assessing.
If you come to us with shoulder pain, for example, we may also look at your neck, upper back, movement and surrounding muscles.
If you’re experiencing hip or leg pain, we may need to consider your lower back and pelvis as well.
We’ll base our recommendations on what we find during your assessment.
Treatment Tailored to You
Your treatment isn’t based simply on the name given to your condition.
We’ll consider your symptoms, examination findings, medical history, lifestyle and what you’re hoping to achieve.
We’ll explain what we’re recommending and why.
More Than Chiropractic Treatment
Where appropriate, chiropractic care can be combined with soft-tissue treatment, exercise and rehabilitation and other treatment approaches available at the clinic.
This gives us different options when deciding how best to manage your particular problem.

If you’re experiencing back pain, neck pain, sciatica or another musculoskeletal problem, you don’t need to know exactly what’s causing it before making an appointment.
We’ll start by listening, assessing what’s happening and helping you understand what may be contributing to your symptoms and what your options are.
Don’t Let Pain Decide What You Can and Can’t Do
It’s easy to start adapting your life around pain.
Perhaps you’ve stopped exercising, changed the way you sit or sleep, avoided particular movements or simply accepted that certain activities are going to be uncomfortable.
Sometimes those changes are sensible in the short term. But if a problem isn’t improving, keeps returning or is starting to interfere with your everyday life, it may be time to have it assessed.
Understanding what may be contributing to your symptoms is a useful first step.
