Back Care and Exercise
Almost everyone gets back pain at some time, but staying active, with the help of chiropractic treatment, may well be the best solution.
Your first chiropractic appointment is an opportunity to understand what may be causing or contributing to your symptoms and to discuss what can be done about them.
We will ask about your symptoms and health, carry out an appropriate examination and explain our findings. If chiropractic treatment is suitable, we will discuss the available options with you before treatment begins.
There is no standard treatment programme or set number of appointments. Your care is based on your individual circumstances, examination findings, goals and response to treatment.

If you have never visited a chiropractor before, you may be wondering what happens during an appointment and what treatment will feel like.
At Isis Chiropractic Centres, your first visit is about understanding your symptoms, examining the problem and explaining what we find. We will discuss whether chiropractic treatment may be appropriate and what other options might be worth considering.
Our aim is to help you understand your condition and make an informed decision about your care.
Your chiropractor will begin by asking about your symptoms, your general health and how the problem affects your everyday activities. We will also want to understand what you would like to get back to doing.
An examination will then be carried out according to your symptoms. This may include assessing movement, joints, muscles, posture and neurological function.
We will explain what we find and discuss the treatment options that may be appropriate. If further investigation, imaging or referral to another healthcare professional would be more suitable, we will explain this too.
Chiropractic treatment is tailored to the individual rather than following one standard approach. Depending on your assessment, treatment may include joint mobilisation or manipulation, soft tissue techniques, advice and exercise.
Your chiropractor will explain the proposed treatment before it begins, including relevant benefits and risks, and you will have the opportunity to ask questions.
Most chiropractic techniques are intended to be comfortable, but some people experience temporary soreness or stiffness following treatment, particularly when an area is already sensitive.
The techniques used can be adapted according to your condition, preferences and how you respond. If something is uncomfortable, tell your chiropractor so the approach can be adjusted where appropriate.
There is no set number of appointments that is right for everyone. The amount of care you may need depends on factors such as the nature of the problem, how long you have had it, your examination findings and how you respond.
Your progress should be reviewed as treatment continues. If you are not responding as expected, we can reconsider the diagnosis or treatment plan and discuss whether further investigation or referral may be appropriate.
Exercise and rehabilitation may form part of your care, particularly when the aim is to improve movement, strength and function or help manage recurring problems.
Your chiropractor may recommend exercises to perform at home or, where appropriate, incorporate supervised rehabilitation into your treatment plan.
Chiropractic treatment is not appropriate for every condition. An important part of your assessment is identifying anything that may require further investigation or a different form of care.
If we believe another treatment, imaging or specialist assessment would be more appropriate, we will explain why and discuss the next steps with you.
