Chiropractic Treatment And Back Care

Almost everyone gets back pain at some time, but staying active, with the help of chiropractic treatment, may well be the best solution.

As you go through life, loss of proper movement of the spinal joints can interfere with the healthy working of your spine and the nerves that pass through it. This can lead to pain! Pain is a warning sign and should not be ignored. Too many times do we hear from or patients “I thought it would go away, it usually goes within 2-3 days!”. Each time you have pain in the same area you are more likely for the pain not to go away and to become a chronic problem.

Part of dealing with the problem properly involves doing rehabilitation exercise.

Understanding the Causes of Back Pain and How Chiropractic Can Help

Common Causes Of Back Pain Include:

Poor posture may lead to back pain, particularly if you:

Spend hours a day sitting at a desk or a computer

  • Slouch in front of the TV
  • Sleep in a bed that is too hard or too soft
  • Find yourself hunching your back or shoulders in stressful situations
  • Daily activities such as bending, lifting and twisting.

Traumas such as:

  • Car accidents
  • Falls
  • Sporting injuries
  • Lifting heavy weights

Chiropractic Treatment: A Better Solution Than Painkillers for Back Pain

Chiropractic treats the cause of the pain, unlike pain killing drugs, which just mask the symptoms!

We will carry out a thorough examination (including x-rays if necessary), take a full medical history, check your posture and discuss your lifestyle to try and establish the cause of your back pain.

We will make a diagnosis and start your treatment, using gentle, specific, chiropractic manipulation techniques, to free any stiff joints and remove spinal nerve irritation. This effective, drug-free treatment is generally painless, however, you may feel some short-term discomfort if your back is very sore.

Research has shown that in cases of back pain, prolonged bed rest weakens the muscles and bones, and reduces the chances of a full recovery. The best advice is to try to remain mobile, even if you can only manage very gentle exercise. We normally advise patients to ice the area which is sore, to reduce the level of inflammation.

Once you are more comfortable we will start exercises, including stretching and core stability exercises.

Our Back Care Programme: Tailored Exercises for Your Specific Needs

Here at the Isis Chiropractic Centres we run a back care programme that is based on research evidence.

We run different programmes. Which exercises you do depends on your needs.

We do not believe that everybody needs to do the same exercises, so you will not be given a sheet of exercises and left to get on with it.

Our assessment programme will pinpoint exactly where your weak link is, so you can focus on that, rather than doing general exercise. Some which at best, will not make you better, and at worst, will make you worse.
