Don't Let Pain Spook You This Halloween!



Halloween is nearly here and as you're preparing for a night of frightful fun make sure to remember our top tips to prevent pain for all the family this year!


Trick or Treating? 

Don't forget the correct footwear! You may have mentally prepared yourself for a night full of walking to pick up those all important halloween goodies but even when dressed up in your best costume it is important to ensure you wear comfortable and supportive shoes as you head out for a night of walking.

If you are finding your shoes are not giving you sufficient support then speak to your chiropractor to see if Orthotics could benefit you. Long walks wearing unsupportive shoes can lead to a scary amount of back pain.

Make sure all the family are in comfortable footwear before heading out trick or treating this year.



Taking Little Ones?
 

Don't forget to bring along the pushchair for when their legs get tired. If you have little ones coming along then it's always a good idea to bring their pushchair with you.

Little legs will get tired sooner and without the pushchair you may end up carrying them for a good portion of the walk. So make sure you have that pushchair with you to prevent the added strain on your back, it will thank you!


Apple Bobbing?
 

Watch your neck! Apple bobbing is a family favourite game at this time of year but if you are getting involved with the kids then ensure to watch your neck.

Traditionally Apple bobbing involves having your hands tied behind your back whilst you bend and try to catch the apples with just your mouth from a bucket filled with water. If you are not careful, one awkward movement can cause you a lot of pain in the neck!

If you do find yourself in pain after taking part then make sure to ice the area and get booked in for an appointment with your chiropractor as soon as possible. If you are out and about meaning you are unable to ice then biofreeze is a great on the go option - pop into clinic to make sure you're fully stocked up ready.


Carving The Pumpkin?

Do it on a table to avoid back pain

Carving the pumpkin is a highlight for many at this time of year but awkwardly bending to get the correct angle while trying to avoid mess can often mean the start of back pain especially if it takes you a while to carve your masterpiece. Therefore, to avoid this we recommend covering a suitable table to avoid the

mess spreading and sitting on a supportive and comfortable chair while you carve your pumpkin.You may also want to use a back support to help prevent slouching and to provide extra comfort. If your design is going to take a while to do, we recommend taking regular breaks and getting up to move around for a few minutes or so at a time to ensure you're not sitting in the same position for too long, which could aggravate your back.
