Please note: The Clinical Commissioning Group for Northamptonshire has stopped the AQP programme and from the 31 March 2016 there will be no provision for Chiropractic treatment in Northamptonshire.
If you need further information, you can contact us here.
The Isis Centres have an NHS contract in Northamptonshire that covers treatment for back pain and neck pain, and related problems. It is called the AQP programme.
All you have to do is to make an appointment with your GP and ask to be referred to us on the AQP programme.
They might suggest that you should go elsewhere for treatment, but there is no reason why you cannot have chiropractic treatment if you want to.
Your GP may offer you alternatives, such as a course of drugs or physiotherapy, but remember - the choice is yours. The AQP programme was set up in order to give you choice!
The longer you stay in pain the longer it will take to get better. If you have a back or neck related problem, do not delay your treatment!
The treatment is effective and we can see you within 24 hours of your referral!
Many GPs recommend our treatment, because it is effective for these problems. The most up-to-date research suggests that chiropractic treatment including manipulation is one of the most effective ways of treating back pain and neck pain, according to NICE guidelines (Government Clinical Specialists).
If you want our treatment, all you have to do is to tell your GP that you want it. The choice is yours! The AQP programme was set up in order to give you choice!
There is no reason why you cannot have chiropractic treatment if your GP suggests that you can have physiotherapy treatment. There is not a contraindication to our treatment that wouldn't be a contraindication to have physiotherapy.
We would select the most effective and safe treatment for you.
Our treatment includes many different treatment methods not just manipulation, as some people believe. We can treat both muscular and join problems. You can read more about the treatment here.
If your GP suggests that you cannot have chiropractic treatment because they do not recommend it, you should ask them why!
If they suggest that there is a reason not to see a chiropractor, please let us know. We might be able to help.
Several GPs in our area are very pro chiropractic and we receive regular referrals from them. However, some GPs do not know how effective the treatment is, what qualifications chiropractors have, what we can treat and what the treatment entail. To help you and other patients, we would be happy to inform them.
If they say that the treatment is dangerous, they are wrong! Chiropractic treatment is safer than taking painkillers! If you are interested in reading about risks you can click here.
If they say that that you are too old, there is no upper age limit or lower age limit to have chiropractic treatment! The youngest patients we have seen have been two days and the oldest 98 years old!
If they say that you have arthritis, it is not a contraindication to have our treatment! We will select the most safe and effective treatment method for you. There is plenty of research to show that chiropractic treatment is beneficial in people with osteoarthritis, especially in combination with the use of low-level laser therapy.
If they say that we are not qualified to deal with your problem, they are wrong! Chiropractors train full-time for five years where we learn medical diagnosis, radiography and radiology (apart from chiropractic skills), which mean that we can diagnose your problem. Chiropractors are primary care practitioners, which means that, in a private setting, our patients can contact us directly without seeing their GP. We specialise in nerve, muscle and joint problems. We are registered with the General Chiropractic Council (GCC), members of the British Chiropractic Association (BCA) and the Royal College Of Chiropractors (RCoC).
If you are in doubt, or you have any problems with the referral process, we are happy to help! Please give us a call to speak to one of the chiropractors.
We will call you as soon as we get the referral from your GP and you are likely to be seen within a day or two.
The contract is limited to neck and back related problems, which would include the following:
This is not an exhaustive list. If you are unsure you can always call us and ask.
Remember - just because your problem is not listed, does not mean that we can't help you.
A brief telephone chat can help to clarify the problem, although a diagnosis cannot be made without an examination.
There are certain restrictions to this service.
For instance, you cannot have the treatment on the NHS for neck pain and back pain if:
If, however, it turns out that the NHS does not cover your problem, we can most likely still help you.
If you need any further information please do not hesitate to contact us! We are happy to help!
